  13.                     HERE'S HOW SHAREWARE WORKS:

  15. You are encouraged to copy the PC-File+ diskettes and share them freely with
  16. others.  You have the luxury of trying out the complete programs, at your
  17. own pace and in the comfort of your own home or workplace.  This is not a
  18. crippled or "demo" copy, but the complete working version of the program.

  20. If, after trying out the programs, you decide to continue to use them, you
  21. are trusted to purchase PC-File+ from the program's author, or from an
  22. authorized dealer.

  25. Why pay at all?

  27.    *  You receive a CURRENT copy of the program
  28.    *  You receive a printed manual (300 pages)
  29.    *  One year of technical support - by phone or written
  30.    *  Notification of updates (and fixes, if required)
  31.    *  Inexpensive upgrade offers

  33.    *  Periodic offers and "deals" (for our customers only)
  34.    *  Your input and ideas help shape future products
  35.    *  Access to the on-line ButtonWare Bulletin Board, which means:
  36.         - Information and announcements (on line)
  37.         - Communication with other ButtonWare users
  38.         - More technical support, and helpful tips/pointers
  39.    *  A sense of pride and ownership, in having honestly
  40.       participated in the Shareware revolution
  41.    *  You help to keep software prices down, by supporting a
  42.       distribution method which doesn't rely on expensive
  43.       advertising campaigns.

  46. So please dive in and enjoy the fun of legally sharing good software with
  47. your friends and associates.  But also be aware of the following
  48. restrictions, designed to protect the community of Shareware users and
  49. authors, and to prevent greedy people from taking unfair advantage of the
  50. trust, hard work, and good will of Shareware authors:

  52. 1. No price or consideration may be charged. However, a distribution cost may
  53.    be charged for the cost of the diskettes, shipping, and handling, not to
  54.    exceed $10 total.
  55.  
  56. 2. The files and programs on the disks may not be modified nor deleted.
  57.  
  58. 3. The programs cannot be sold as part of some other more inclusive package.
  59.  
  60. 4. The programs cannot be "rented" or "leased" to others.
  61.  
  62. 5. The printed manual cannot be copied or reproduced in any way.
  63.  
  64. 6. In the case of distribution via computerized "bulletin boards" or through
  65.    any other telecommunications link the following must be done:
  66.     *  X-Modem or some other error checking protocol must be used
  67.     *  All ButtonWare programs (and documentation files) must be transferred
  68.        in a library format.  That means the files have all been combined
  69.        into one file.  You can get assistance with this procedure from the
  70.        Technical Support Department at ButtonWare.

  72. 7. If you're copying the disks for distribution to students in a classroom,
  73.    you must provide them with the following written notice:

  98.    Canada, and England.  We believe that most foreign users are best served
  99.    by their own publishers who sell licensed versions of PC-File+.

  104.                       PRINTING A COPY OF THE MANUAL

  107. We have tried to provide you with everything necessary to evaluate
  108. PC-File+.  The program utilizes clear, informative menus.  Help screens
  109. are always a keystroke away (Alt-H).  Also, the file CARD on disk #2 is a
  110. quick reference card with a summary of all the commands available in the
  111. program.
  112.  
  113. This is sufficient for most people to do a good evaluation of the program.
  114. However, some people prefer to have a complete copy of the printed manual.
  115.  
  116. In order to keep costs down, the manual on disk is not included with
  117. purchased copies of the program and cannot be purchased directly from
  118. ButtonWare.  Purchased copies of PC-File+ include a complete printed copy
  119. of the manual, typeset and bound.
  120.  
  121. To print the manual:
  122. *   Put the PC-File+ manual on disk into the A: drive
  123. *   type   A:DOC     and press the (Enter) key
  124.  
  125. If your printer jams and you need to restart the printing at a point midway
  126. through the document, or if you need to print a wider left margin, you can
  127. enter other commands on the same line with DOC.  Here is how the commands
  128. are entered:

  130.     A:DOC  p=pageskip m=margin
  131.  
  132. Replace "pageskip" above with the number of pages to skip over before
  133. printing begins.  For example, if you say  A:DOC p=50, then 50 pages will
  134. be skipped over before printing begins.  Replace "margin" above with the
  135. number of blank spaces to print at the left of the document.  To print 10
  136. blanks spaces at the left, say  A:DOC m=10.

  144. Please make certain that the CONFIG.SYS file on your bootup disk contains
  145. this statement:   FILES=20
  146. The number may be 20 or larger. This is covered on page 20 in the manual.

  148. If you do not currently have a CONFIG.SYS file on your boot disk you can
  149. add it easily by typing in the following lines after booting up:
  150.     CD  \
  151.     COPY  CON:  CONFIG.SYS
  152.     FILES=20
  153. Press (Enter) after each line. After the last line has been entered press
  154. the F6 key and a ^Z will appear. Press (Enter). You should now reboot the
  155. computer, so that your new CONFIG.SYS file will become active.

  159. a look at:

  161.     CHANGES  - detailed account of differences between PC-File+ and
  162.                the previous version of PC-File III or PC-File/R
  163.     PRODUCTS - Short review of ButtonWare products, and an order form
  164.     RESPONSE - A user feedback survey. We really like to receive these
  165.                from you.

  175. CompuServe Information Service and The Source.

  177. Because of the easy accessibility of CompuServe and The Source, ButtonWare
  178. users can easily communicate with us and with each other.  CompuServe and
  179. The Source are available 24 hours a day, and generally do not require long
  180. distance phone calls.

  182. The ButtonWare Technical Support Department checks messages every day of
  183. the week.  Online technical support will be available to all ButtonWare
  184. users - whether registered or not.  In addition, answers to common
  185. questions, Shareware copies of the entire ButtonWare product line, and
